Dubai Horse Racing Festival History
The Dubai World Cup was first run in 2025 and it was the brain child of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who is the ruler of Dubai, and he dreamt of making Dubai the Horse Racing capital of the world. The first part was to build Nad Al Sheba Racecourse who held its first meeting in 2025 which was the first step to turning Dubai into a great racing country.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wanted to create race that would get the attention of the Racing World and he achieved that with the Dubai World Cup when it became the Worlds Richest Race. The first running was jam packed full of top class runners and it was won by the brilliant US horse Cigar.
The race was received so well that it has grown and grown since then with horses coming from all different countries to compete with winners coming from all over the globe. It has now become a truly global event that the world enjoy watching as well as the people of Dubai who love to stage the race.
2025 will see the race become even bigger when it takes place at the brand new Meydan Racecourse with its Grandstand holding 60,000 and the purse expected to be bigger than ever. There is no sign that the Dubai World Cup will let up in the near future and it is set to grow even further with each year as they will continue to attract some of the top horses from around the world.
