Dubai Horse Racing Festival Jockeys

The Dubai Horse Racing Festival runs for several weeks which gives the worlds best jockeys the chance of riding several winners every Thursday and then of course in the Dubai World Cup Meeting on the final Saturday of March.

There are some jockeys who enjoy heading over to Dubai more than others and we are going to be having a closer look as some of the more successful jockeys at the Carnival over recent years.

Frankie Dettori

Frankie DettoriFrankie Dettori is perhaps the most famous and most popular Jockey in the world and he has been a regular winner in Dubai over the years. Frankie has won almost every big race there is to win in flat racing and that includes many of the big races out at the Dubai Horse Racing Carnival. Dettori is the retained Jockey for the Godolphin stable who are based in both Dubai and the UK and as such always have a strong presence at the Festival. Frankie will ride all the best horses from the stable that are trained by Saeed Bin Suroor who is the trainer for Godolphin, Frankie will always be decked out in the Blue silks and hat to signify the No.1 Godolphin horse.

Frankie has been on board the winner of the Dubai World Cup three times for Godolphin. He won his first World Cup on board Dubai Millennium in 2000 in a record time and most recently with Electrocutionist in 2006 as well as in 2003 with Moon Ballad.

Mick Kinane

Mick KinaneMick Kinane is a highly experienced jockey who has won all the big races around the world including winning the Derby three times. Kinane has been going through somewhat of a renaissance recently with his rides on Sea the Stars who has proved to be one of the all time greats. Mick has gained a real appetite in recent years for riding over in Dubai on a Thursday night and he has ridden several winners at Nad Al Sheba. He has been riding for Eve Johnson Houghton in Dubai in recent times and he has picked up several wins along the way and he will be back in 2010 aiming for more winners.

Richard Hills

Richard Hills is one of the top jockeys on the circuit and he has one several of the worlds biggest races and loves to ride in Dubai where he has collected some great wins. Hills has won the the Dubai World Cup on Almutawakel in 1999 along with a win in the Dubai Sheema Classic and the Dubai Duty Free which are all top top races. Hills is the retained Jockey for Hamdan Al Maktoum which means he guranteed a raft of top quality rides in Fubai which he has duly accepted and he looks set to be riding winners at Meydan for many years to come.

Johnny Murtagh

Johnny MurtaghJohnny Murtagh is the retained jockey for the Coolmore yard which means he gets the first pick for the best Aiden O Brien trained horses and he has won most of the big flat races in the UK and Ireland as well as throughout the world. Murtagh has had a brilliant 2009 with winners in both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas in Ireland as with the likes of Mastercraftsman proving a big hit. In the last few years Murtagh has ridden more and more out at the Dubai Racing Carnival. Johnny was hired by top trainer Mike De Kock for the 2008 Dubai Carnival and it proved to be a successful partnership with wins in the UAE 2000 Guineas and the UAE Derby. He has become more experienced over in Dubai and it is expected he will once again pick up some good rides in 2010 so he is one to look out for thats for sure.
